Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 20, 2026

Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Masjids app you agree to this policy.

1Information We Collect

Account information. When you register we collect your name and email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google we receive only the data those services provide (email, display name).

Location. With your permission we access your device location to show nearby masjids and sort search results. We do not store your location on our servers.

Usage data. We collect which masjids you follow and your notification preferences so we can send you relevant prayer time alerts and announcements.

Device token. We store an Expo push token to deliver notifications. This token is tied to your account, not your identity.

Guest use. If you use the app as a guest (anonymous), we store a temporary anonymous user ID. This data is permanently deleted when you sign out.

2How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account
  • To send prayer time, iqamah, and announcement notifications for masjids you follow
  • To display nearby masjids based on your current location (never stored)
  • To allow masjid administrators to manage their listings

3Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

  • Firebase / Google — cloud infrastructure, authentication, and database hosting
  • Expo — push notification delivery
  • Google Places API — mosque search results

The app may display external donation links (e.g. LaunchGood, Zelle, or a masjid's own donation page) configured by masjid administrators. We do not process payments — tapping these links takes you to a third-party site governed by that site's own privacy policy.

All third-party services are bound by their own privacy policies.

4Data Retention

Your account data is retained while your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from the Profile tab — this permanently deletes all personal data associated with your account.

Anonymous guest accounts are deleted automatically on sign-out.

5Push Notifications

You control which notifications you receive from the Notifications settings screen. You may revoke notification permission at any time from your device settings.

6Children's Privacy

The Masjids app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

7Security

We use industry-standard security measures including Firebase authentication, Firestore security rules, and HTTPS encryption for all data in transit. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable precautions.

8Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via in-app notice or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.

9Your Rights

Depending on your location you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, or if you have any questions about this policy, contact us at the address below.

10Deleting Your Account

To delete your Masjids account, open the app and go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account, then confirm. This action is immediate and permanent.

When you delete your account:

  • All of your account data is permanently removed from our database (Firestore), including your profile, email, and notification preferences.
  • Your follower count is automatically decremented from any masjids you were following.
  • We do not retain any of your data after deletion — nothing is archived or kept.

If you have any questions about account deletion, contact us at masjidsapp@gmail.com.
